Binbin Wang, PhD, PE (CV)
Associate Professor, William Andrew Davidson Professor
Research areas: Our research explores the physics of fluid flows in environmental and engineering systems, with interests spanning turbulence, particle–turbulence interactions, ecohydraulics and ecohydrology, droplet and bubble dynamics, jets and plumes, mixing and transport processes, virus-laden droplet transport, seed dispersal, river and lake dynamics, and air–water gas exchange. We also develop advanced sensing and measurement technologies, including underwater imaging, remote sensing, and edge-AI systems that integrate optical and acoustic methods. These tools are applied to flow characterization, particle tracking, and environmental monitoring across a range of natural and engineered systems.
Postdoctoral scholars
Dr. Jitae Do
Jitae earned his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. His research focuses on air-water interactions, bubbly flows, turbulence dynamics, and the mechanisms governing turbulence generation.
Dr. Qingqing Sun
Qingqing earned her Ph.D. from Tianjin University, China. Her research focuses on hydraulic modeling, river dynamics, and flow–ecology interactions, with an emphasis on understanding and predicting complex processes in natural water systems.

Ph.D. student, 2024 J.R. Popalisky scholarship recipient, MO-AWWA
Xuchen (Schützen) graduated from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) and is pursuing his doctoral studies at Mizzou. His research areas focus on Numerical Simulation, Particle Image Velocimetry, and Multiphase Flow. Beyond academia, his interests include swimming, hiking, and Bethesda Games.
Muhammad Waqar Saleem
Ph.D. student
Waqar obtained his MSc in Water Resources Engineering & Management from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Pakistan. He was a Gold Medalist in Civil Engineering from Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Multan, Pakistan. His research focuses on hydrology, hydraulics, and numerical modeling of floods, with experience in dam-break analysis, watershed modeling, and water allocation studies. He has published on urban flood simulation, climate impacts on hydrological extremes, and water management strategies. Outside of research, he enjoys traveling, badminton, and cricket.
Andrew Weber
Ph.D. student
Andrew is a Mizzou graduate currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering. His research combines experimental and numerical approaches to study bubble plumes in channel systems. His work seeks to advance the understanding of plastic particle transport under the influence of bubble curtains and to explore applications of bubble plumes for fish deterrence.
Sajih Bin Suja
M.S. student
Sajih earned his undergraduate degree from Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) in Bangladesh. His academic interests include Computational Fluid Dynamics, turbulence, and multiphase flows. Outside of his research, he enjoys traveling, playing card games and is a passionate soccer fan, regularly following matches as a devoted supporter of Liverpool FC.
Adan Saeed
M.S. student
Adan is pursuing an M.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Her research focuses on applying machine learning to river systems, including the development of probabilistic neural-network surrogates for rapid prediction of particle transport and dispersion in the Lower Missouri River. She previously earned an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Pakistan.
Grace McKee
M.S. student
Grace is pursuing an M.S. degree in Environmental Engineering. Originally from a small Missouri town near Kansas City, she is interested in investigating rural flooding through hydraulic modeling and developing accessible, effective infrastructure solutions for flood resilience. At the University of Missouri, Grace serves as President of the Concrete Canoe Team and is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
